About Bergman Center


The Center was founded in 1977 by Prof. Yirmiyahu Yovel, to promote philosophical research at the Hebrew University.
 

The chairman of the Center is Prof. Daniel Attas, and its director is Dr. Michael Roubach.
 

The Center publishes Iyyun: The Jerusalem Philosophical Quarterly (as well as the Jerusalem Encounters in Philosophy, which are international conferences devoted to selected topics in philosophy).

The Borders of Perception

Perceptual experience is undoubtedly central in our lives. It provides us with the bulk—if not all—of the information we have about the external world. It is crucial to our survival and the survival of our evolutionary relatives. It’s also central to most of the sources of meaning and enjoyment that we have in our lives.
